Latin American, Caribbean countries discuss creation of new bloc
Cancun, Mexico – Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Monday opened a two-day summit of Latin American and Caribbean nations that is expected to explore the creation of a new regional bloc. In the presence of 24 country leaders at the Grand Velas Hotel on the Mayan Riviera, some 60 kilometres south of Mexican resort city Cancun, Calderon called for the “union of Latin American and Caribbean nations for development, freedom, justice and democracy.”

The Colombian IT market is one of the least developed in the Latin America region, but is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% over the 2010-2014 period. The market continued to grow in 2009, although there was a sharp deceleration compared with the previous year. The consumer-driven economic boom of recent years may have come to an end, but government programmes and growing computer affordability will support spending on IT products and services. Chilean IT spending is expected to return to positive growth territory in 2010 before growing to around U$3.2bn in 2014, from US$2.2bn in 2010. The Chilean IT market is one of the most developed in the Latin American region and, despite current economic headwinds, is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11% over the 2010-2014 period. IBM’s product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) has entered into a new five-year, multi-million dollar outsourcing deal with Chile’s LAN Airlines LAN Airlines S.A. NYSE: LFL (formerly Lan Chile) is an airline based in Santiago, Chile. It is the principal Chilean airline and one of the largest in South America, with flights to Latin America, Canada, United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Oceania, and Europe. . Under the contract, information technology (IT) services will span management, operation and control of LAN’s core IT platform, and will also include security services Security services are state institutions for the provision of intelligence, primarily of a strategic nature, but also including protective security intelligence.
